How to start a ramble
A good ramble starts in the mind. A rambler, for example, who has often wondered what tumuli look like, might choose to ramble for tumuli. This typically involves consulting a map. Note that the rambler use a map before leaving home - it is considered risque to travel with maps. Having found an approximate location of tumuli the rambler heads for the general area in which they may be found and starts rambling.
It quite possible that the tumuli will not be spotted or recognised as tumuli should the rambler stumble upon them. There is no shame in this. The point of it all is to have fun.
In the view of thewrightline rambling should be on the options list of all walkers. It is controlled hoboism - carefree, healthy and prone to discovery of self. Giving up more structured walking is not a prerequisite of rambling.
