Although portrayed in Fairy Tales as sinister, woods are not only beautiful, they
are the lungs of our planet
In rambling terms they are fair game. Stick to any paths you might find if there's
a serious danger of getting lost. It can be bit difficult finding a way out when all
landmarks look the same.
Deciduous has a very different atmoshphere to it than coniferous forest. This
might be obvious, but the rambler likes to feel the differenece, to see gnarled old
oaks and high straight pines; to smell conifer freshness and musty leaf mulch.
I like woods for their peace and wildlife. Go out and explore a clump of trees.
