This loop is tidal. One of the bridges across the Gannel disappears under water at high tide. An alternative route is described in the soon to be available e-book Pieces of Eight.
After fringing the landside of Fistral Beach, the coastal path reaches across the Gannel to its southern shore, and turns west to Crantock Beach.
Strange to think that the Gannel was used as a trade route until the 19th century. Cargo was offloaded at Trevemper and carried to Truro by packhorse.
Again the Gannel is crossed and a steep climb on steps leads to Pentire Point East. This finger of slate reaches out into the Atlantic sheltering the graceful arc of Crantock Beach. Circumnavigating the Point is an optional part of PoE20b.
The route now drops back towards Fistral Beach and the town.
It returns to Towan by skirting the golf course.
