Centred on Watergate Bay PoE19 reaches north to Mawgan Porth and to Porth Beach in the south.
Its mood shifts from the high octane of Xtreme Sports and trendy cafes at the start point to rural tranquility in some of its inland sections. The route passes through wetlands, a church yard and farming territory.
The coastal section from Watergate Bay to Mawgan Porth follows the broad beach to its northern extremity at Stem Point. The land then bucks and buckles and freezes at weird angles before falling gently to Mawgan Porth.
Trevelgue Head, or Porth Island, is the site of an Iron Age Fort. It guards the northern flank of Porth Beach. This is a beautiful area. I could sit all day on Porth Island just to watch the shifting light.
The church of St. Columb Minor is dedicated to St. Columba. Little is known of the saint. The church yard opens onto a lane leading to farmland and back to the start point.
