PoE 18 Carnewas loop a 7.5 miles
PoE 18 Carnewas loop b 4.5 miles
Carnewas is somewhere between Mawgan Porth and Porthcothan. It is sited yards from Bedruthan Steps* - a bay made famous by post cards.
The coastal sections of PoE18 vary from almost rugged to gently sloping. The rise from Pentire Steps to Park Head would not look out of place in the coastal downs of Dorset, while descending from Trenance Rocks to Mawgan Porth has more of a goat track feel to it. All three accessible beaches are of sand.
Inland, the scenery is a mixture of winding, bush tangled lanes and neat farmland. Both loops have their share of tarmac. Loop b skirts a military enclosure at St. Eval and has a bleakly futuristic air to it.
The going is generally easy and the coastal views are wonderful.
PoE18 is an atmospheric eight and the atmosphere is as fluid as mercury. Step back in time on this eight.

*Bedruthan Steps is the name of a rock about half way along Whitestone Cove. The rock is classically photographed within the context of the beach as a whole. This has led to the entire beach being called Bedruthan Steps - a case of mistaken identity.
