A short and rather enchanting loop with easy going and space for reflection.
Rising onto the low coastal cliff west of Trevone Bay, pause to look back. A good view of the Round Hole is offered across Newtrain Bay. At low tide, Newtrain Bay reveals a treasure chest of slate in striking contrast to the sands of both Trevone and Harlyn bays. There are points were access to the rock pools and strange peace of Newtrain Bay is easy.
Rounding St. Cadoc's Point brings into view Harlyn Bay - a crescent of sand set in slate. The route slopes gently to the bay and crosses its eastern corner. Rise on tarmac past St. Cadoc's Cottage and cross fields to return to the village of Trevone.
The start and end of this eight lies at the end of the main road through the village.
PoE16 is a lovely eight with variety both within and between its 2 loops. Refreshments are available at Trevone Bay (seasonal) and at Harlyn Bay, where the Harlyn Inn is open all year.

Gulland Rock from Harlyn Bay
St Cadoc is a notable Welsh saint who lived during the 6th century. He has associations with Bodmin and Harlyn. It is said that after a long walk he and his companions were thirsty. Cadoc struck his staff onto rock from which water began to flow. They drank and their thirst was quenched. Cadoc blessed the water:
"Let us pray, brethren, to the merciful God, that all the sick who shall come to this holy fountain may receive, by the gift of his grace, healing of all their diseases; and that, as it has quenched our burning thirst, so it may cure their malignant sores. If any sick person, firmly trusting in the Lord, drinks of this well, his belly and bowels shall be healed. and worms therefrom expelled."
quoted from Gilbert H Doble, 'The Saints of Cornwall' (part 4) p59
