Trevone Bay is the first sandy cove west of Padstow. It has a round hole reaching down and out to sea on its eastern bank. (see notes PoE16 for more about round holes.)

As the land rises from Roundhole Point, a distant chapel emerges on the horizon. Or so I thought on first seeing it. This 'chapel' is in fact Middle Merope Island - an off shore rock. Its strange shape might have been carved by slate miners. Poor quality slate was often left intact for lack of commercial interest and to offer shelter for the workers.

After a steep climb to Gunver Head, a lone chimney can be seen in the distance. This is a daymark* and it is sited on Stepper Point. Further, though less dramatic, examples of round holes are evident en route to Stepper Point.

Follow the line of the Camel Estuary inland from Stepper Point and leave the coastal path at Tregirls Farm.

A route over fields leads back to Trevone Bay.
