Unlike any other eight PoE12 does not start at its central point. Instead, choose from a westerly or eastern start point. It is possible to complete this eight by walking two seperate circles, or by following a figure of eight. A lack of parking space makes the more traditional mid point start unviable.

This is a long tough eight. Allow at least 6 hours to complete it in one go. Both loops include steep climbs and significant distances of tarmac to walk. It is nonetheless a hauntingly beautiful journey.

The coastal sections are demanding and have a somewhat lonely feeling to them. Gulls populate the offshore rocks. As well as the ubiquitous herring gull, the rarer black backed gull and stubby fulmar are often seen in this coastal area.

Views of the distant Rough Tor can be enjoyed on loop a and loop b includes a stroll through a broadleaf wooded valley.

Perhaps beacuse it is the longest and toughest eight, PoE12 always satisfies.
