After rising and falling to a wooded valley the route turns away from trees. Cattle often share the fields as an ill defined path rises towards Pengold Farm. The peak of High Cliff becomes visible beyond a foreground of green.
There are moments in the year when Rusey Cliff explodes in colour that words fail to describe. The path swings crazily from left to right as it zig zags down to the coast. At its nadir, High Cliff looms large and the path sharply rises up it.
The climb is never as bad as the anticipation of making it. At 731 feet above sea level there is no higher sea view in Cornwall.
Pause to enjoy the visual feast and the achievement. Reflect awhile on the rugged descent of Rusey Cliff. Taste the mood of the landscape. Though the rocks and the turf and the sea will still be there tomorrow, its moods will change. As will yours.
