PoE 4 loop b skirts the town of Bude, passing the castle and Bude Light as well as the local fire station before cutting across downs to find a route to Northcott Bay. - A delight for rock pool enthusiasts of all ages.
Maer Cliff is the way back. Northcott House suggests something about cliff erosion. One can't help but feel it was built further from the cliff edge than it now stands.
Glimpses of serrated rock along the shore line can be viewed from the cliff top. These paint a strange image of that threshold between land and sea. The beach can be walked, though check the tides before doing so as a normal high tide will leave the unwary stranded.
There are many cafes from Crooklets Beach onwards. Summerleaze Sea Pool lies en route. This is washed by the sea on every tide to refresh the bathing water. A stroll over the beach provides the final leg of the return section.
Pause, if time permits, to visit the Bude Stratton Museum - a cornucopia of local history.
