Although short, the section of coastal path between Stanbury and Tidna Shute, is lovely. A brief and worthwhile detour can be found at Higher Sharpnose Point where a spit of land penetrates the Atlantic Ocean. The seaward end of the spit affords views of unusual perspective for walkers. From here it is possible to see the land from the sea.

Beyond Tidna Shute stands the manor of Tonacombe, an impressive dwelling guarded by sculptured heraldic falcon who perch on high gate posts. This dwelling has never been on the market. It has been the home of the Waddon Martyn family and though the servants have now gone, the surrounding land is still farmed by surviving family members. Fields lead back to Stanbury.

This is a short, contemplative walk of great beauty and variety. There are no refreshments en route, though the Bush Inn at Crosstown is only a short detour away.

The going is easy.
