This loop is one of sombre beauty.
Starting from the church of St Morwenna it heads north along a coast line of furrowed slate. There are three strenuous ascents along the spaghetti westernesque path. A thin peninsula of rock called Devil's Hole and looking like a crocodile is the most northerly pier in Cornwall. Beyond it lies Marsland Mouth and a river crossing to Devon.
A meandering woodland path leads back to the thin stream separating two counties. Farmland, torn over centuries from thick shrub, characterises the return leg. The deeper inland valleys remain wooded and provide some shelter from rain or shine.
Autumn brings out the best of this route, which can be strenuous in the heat of Summer. A light mist enhances the dark romance of the area's history and Autmnal colour adds depth to its landscape.
The Vicarage Tea Shop opens for refreshments during the Summer.
